Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is a Korean-Canadian award winning actor, writer and comedian. He is best known as family patriarch ‘Appa’ on the CBC/Netflix hit Kim’s Convenience. Paul received fan and critical acclaim globally winning four Canadian Screen Awards in the Leading Comedic Role category as well as a nomination for the role from the Seoul International Drama Awards. Twice nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Theatre Award for outstanding performance and winner of the prestigious Toronto Theatre Critics' Award for Best Actor. Paul continues to pursue excellence both onstage and screen.
As an avid Star Wars fan and collector, Paul was thrilled to join the universe in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka as X-wing fighter ‘Captain Carson Teva’ for Disney+. Next up, Paul joins the cast of Netflix’s live action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender as the beloved ‘Uncle Iroh’.
We chat about his toy collection, rejection, being excellent, dealing with trolls, lifting others up, imposter syndrome, Kim’s Convenience, upbringing and leaning into his culture, ‘success’ later in life, play and fun, why being a nerd is cool and of course failure.
